I don’t remember how I learned about Iris Apfel, but her iconic look stayed with me- those large, dark circular glasses, layer upon layer of jewelry and color- she was a style maven to remember! Plus, snippets of her wit and whimsy from interviews and articles just made me adore her more.
I was happy to learn I wasn’t the only one. With age, she’s only become more popular, and at 96 (!) I was excited to read in Harper’s Bazaar that she’d be releasing a book: “Iris Apfel: Accidental Icon” this past March.
The book is a collection of ‘Musings of a Geriatric Starlet’ and, in my opinion, is beautifully designed. She mixes personal essays with iconic style quotes, pictures from when her and her husband ran Old World Weavers, and more recent snaps to create an inspiring assembly of life and style advice.
She doesn’t mince words, fully advising that “Your smartphone is not your brain” (pg. 108) & “…when style and good manners go away, the whole culture seems to disintegrate.” (pg. 157)
I have to agree.
