Dog-Friendly Activities in Myrtle Beach

Is it me or does it seem like more and more people are transporting their pooch with them everywhere they go? And I mean everywhere. Last week I saw a lady carrying her small poodle mix in a baby carrier at Marshall’s. It was a bit much.

Don’t get me wrong, I love dogs. Mason, our black lab mix, is the heart and soul of our family. But he’s a dog. If I took him to the grocery store or Lowe’s Home Improvement or Walmart (all places I’ve witness owners with their small and medium size dogs), then a permanent ban would be put on dogs in public places. He LOVES people and doesn’t know his own size. Which can create a problem.

While I understand the want to travel with your pup, there are some places that should remain off limits. Instead of taking your pooch with you to every stop on your list of errands, here are a few places that are pet-friendly and more suitable for your fine, furry friend.

Head to the Beach

Enjoy the sand and sun with your furry one anytime between Labor Day and May 1st in Myrtle Beach. If you’re here during high season, i.e. May 1st through Labor Day, they are not permitted on the beach from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

They can run, jump in the waves, and walk with you for miles. Keep in mind, they must remain leashed at all times and clean up is required.

Go Off-Leash

The Myrtle Beach area has two Barc Parc’s- North & South- where dogs can run off-leash and enjoy each other’s company. North Barc Parc is located off 62nd Avenue North Extension and South Barc Parc is located on Mallard Lake Drive- both have a list of rule & regulations, which you can check out here.

Stroll Around Market Common

The outdoor complex is dog-friendly with some retailers- Orvis, Anthropologie- occasionally offering bowls of water for your parched pooch. The patio seating at Gordon Biersch Brewery is also dog-friendly.
